Thatch
Cottage- Isle of Wight
This charming 16c cottage overlooks an estuary on
the Isle of Wight. The new garden frames views to
the estuary reed beds through mature trees and on
the upper lawns views open out to the chalk down land.
Around the cottage itself is a riotous summer garden
of rich colours and textures.
The
Mill House
This is a lovely garden in Oxfordshire and was a rare
chance to devote the design almost entirely to planting.
I laid out a very simple ground plan on what was an
old pasture land and then planted it up into a wild
and luxurious giant meadow. The planting is very simple
to maintain and has lasted very well for 6 years now. Click

The
Bankside Penthouse
The project objective was to create an ultra modern
design for this small but fabulous riverside terrace.
Given the exposure to wind and weather a rugged Core-ten
steel was used for the planters, softened with timber
decking.
Crowne
Plaza Hotel, Marlow
The Crowne Plaza Hotel is an Hotel with a difference.
I was asked to make a formal design that complemented
the surrounding National Trust woodland. I chose to
use extensive clipped topiary of Hornbeam and Yew
and add to it a lavish herbaceous planting scheme
in the Dutch manner. The result is startling and yet
sympathetic to the locale. Bamber Wallis designed
the site-specific water sculpture.
Stockwell
Garden (Civic Trust Award)
This garden is great fun and connects the contemporary
modern interior of the house with the gentle early
Victorian Crescent where it is located. The garden
needed to be both modern, child friendly, well planted
and spacious. It achieves all this and more and has
become a sought after haunt for design journalists
and fashion shoots. The team won a Civic Trust Award
for the work. Click

Woodley
Community Centre (Civic Trust Award)
The farsighted local council were inspired to recruit
Hawkins Brown Architects to design a new build Community
Centre with its own Theatre. I made a very simple
contemporary garden in sympathy with the building
and its timber clad exterior. The garden is made up
of tree plantings, and mono cultural beds of bamboo
and grasses. The gardens will mature to a stylish
variation on the usual urban planting scheme.
Iden
Croft Herb Farm
The well known Kentish Herb Farm is due a renaissance.
Collaborating with the architects Eldridge Smerin
for a third time, we have secured planning permission
for an exceptional modern house set in a restored
and modernised herb nursery.
Further Projects
A great number of projects are either underway or fully completed. Here is a further cross section of the type of jobs we enjoy. As long as a brief is stimulating it is considered irrespective of size or budget. We are especially proud to have no less than 5 Civic Trust Awards. It's great to feel that we're improving things!
